HRM Dual electrodes starting to detach from band: which glue I use?

As I mentioned in the title I'm looking for a glue to stick the electrodes that are starting to peel off. Has anyone solved it?
I already posted it in the Sensors sub but as it has less views and I know that almost all users here use chest strap, I duplicate it in case someone already went through this experience.
Thanks a lot!

  • Hey,

I have used glue on basis of cyanoacrylate aka "superglue" several times on my strap for HRM Dual and HRM Pro.
If you do that, be careful and don’t use too much. Also watch out not to glue your fingers to the strap Smile

For me, it worked fine, functionality is still there after glueing the straps.

  • You need something electroconductive like this. Use it in the place where the knob sits on a belt.

Well, I don't know, if this is needed. Probably it won't hurt.
But like I wrote, I "just" used "superglue" (and I have in the meantime used it on 3/4 of the edges of the pads on my HRM Dual and HRM Pro straps) and both straps still work absolutely reliable.

  • OK, now I see the Pic. and yes, in that case, ordinary superglue is the best choice.

  • oh, I used to have this issue and Garmin send me a replacement. Next time I try to use glue. That should be water resistant I suppose?

Yes, Cyano it's. or at least I never had problems with things that I used Cyano and then wet them. Yes, Garmin replaced one for me but this one is out of warranty. It lasted about the same as the first one with all the care as the manual says, about 10 months using it several times a week.

Searching on the web I found that others used Textile Glue or Shoes glue for its flexibility and on my toolbox I found a UHU Textile (wash resistant https://www.uhu.com/en-en/products/uhu-textile-blister-20-g-19-ml-enesru).
I'm still collecting experiences but for now I think I will go for the Cyano or the UHU Textile.

Thank you very much to everyone who shared your experience!

Pro tip: You can do both! Smiley

I had this problem with electrodes peeling of on the strap of my HRM Dual. It was within warranty period, so of course I contacted support.garmin.com and they replaced it right away. STILL, I used glue on the original strap and it works until today, the replacement I have in reserve.

Same story with my HRM Pro - here it is even more annoying that the electrodes peel of, as you cannot replace the strap only, but need to replace the whole unit. This also happened within warranty, so I also contacted the support and again they replaced it right away. And then, I also used glue on this one and it also still works.

Call me oldschool, but I don't mind using repaired stuff as long as possible, instead of just throwing it away, even though the replacement has been sent to me. Especially, when the electronics is all fine.

Exactly, that's why I asked here. It is also not acceptable to me that the product has a life expectancy of about 10 months.

  • Mine disintegrated last year, so yeah, after receiving the  new one from garmin support I threw away the old one. Stupid me.... But as I agree 10 months is to short lifetime, I will glue the next time it happens.

  • This was the solution, thank you!

Since I'm a bit stubborn, I tried UHU Textil first, it seemed more "friendly" and more specific. The result was that it lasted only one use. When I rinsed it, it was peeling off again after leaving it unused for 72 hours with the glue. So I cleaned it and applied Superglue, a success. 5 uses and no problems. I don't know how long it will last, but it helped me.

On the other hand, I made the claim to Garmin because although it was out of warranty it had very, very little use. They sent me a new one, so EXCELLENT customer service from Garmin acknowledging this issue.
