955 freezes when sunbathing

I noticed my watch face froze last week whilst sunbathing. Time stood still, the seconds werent moving.  I reset watch, long press and thought no more of it, other than thinking it was just a bug from update (19:18)

However,  yesterday whilst again sunbathing for recovery, the damm watch face froze twice, which as you can imagine is annoying when you're trying to give equal tanning times to body.

Its not happend during an activity before. That would be terrible, running and losing data,

What is going on?

  • The watch is freezing, the buttons don't work, the clock stops, but the display is still illuminated, so technically not shutting down fully, as still illuminated which is drawing some power. The screen doesnt go black until I reset the watch and power down.

  • I see you were writing this also in your initial post, but I did not read carefully enough. In this case I would rather guess it's a hardware failure.

My last cell phone from a well known brand also had this type of problem. In the end I rescued my data putting it into the freezer. Snowflake

  • It is now clear that the problem also is current when not in sunshine. The units heats up, seems to be some process running high. The battery drains as well. Problem comes back also after hard reset. Will call Garmin tomorrow.

  • over heating....   .. ... your watch is a hothouse in the sun... move the watch face round to your inner wrist and away from the sun... you can try a watchface that isnt a black background .  my watch gives me no trouble if i move it to my inner wrist

  • This is not a solution as I stated earlier that it was working fine couple months ago at the same conditions...

Also, mine froze even during hiking.

  • Update: my watch has been replaced under warranty after sending info about freezing on the sun to support.
