Small vibration every time the full watch face bumps my skin

Since the last release I have noticed that if I rest my palm on the face of my watch and then lift my palm, the watch has a small buzz/vibration sensation.  I dont know if this is by design, but I find it quite distracting and annoying as it happens all through out the day when my watch comes in contact with my other arm or leg, or anything where the full face is covered and then I get a little buzz.

Is this by design?

What is the reason?

Is there a way to turn this off?

  • Settings -> System -> Sound and Vide -> Haptics -> OFF

    Haptics were added with the last firmware and turned on by default.

    I think the reason is that when you cover and uncover the watch with your palm, it's a shortcut to instantly return to the watchface (unless you're in an activity or CIQ app). So whenever the watch is covered and uncovered by your skin (even if you're already at the watchface), the watch gives you a little haptic notification to indicate that the shortcut worked.

  • That's pretty cool, I didn't realise that. I assumed it was shorting the touch or something due to too much contact.

  • Yeah it’s a nice feature, but it would probably be even nicer if you didn’t get haptic feedback when you’re already at the watchface, or maybe if the feedback was somehow diminished (the haptic equivalent of how the iOS homescreen bounces when you use the swipe up gesture and you’re already at the homescreen.). Or if there was some kind of animation to indicate what was happening (only problem there is it would be either so fast that you’d probably miss it, or slow enough that it would be annoying)
