Heart rate data field is 0 bpm

Hello, in the past month, my Forerunner 955 has started having an issue where the heart rate data field on the watch is showing as 0 bpm. However, the completed activity on Garmin connect shows that my HR was consistently read throughout the activity and none of the readings appear as 0 bpm. I exported the FIT file to CSV and confirmed there are no "0 bpm" heart rate readings.

I first noticed this issue when I was indoor riding and was broadcasting my HR to Zwift over Bluetooth from the watch. Zwift was showing my current HR but my HR data field was displaying "0 bpm". This leads me to believe this is an issue in software since the FIT file and HR broadcast were both showing the HR value.

I have wiped the sensor with a cloth and moved the band around and moved the watch to my other wrist but after a moment the HR would go back to showing "0 bpm".

I also have an external HR monitor paired with the device but each time the watch HR was showing "0 bpm" the external HR monitor was not near me or was off.

My forerunner 955 is on SW version 19.18.

  • Very odd. It’s definitely not a sensor issue if the HR values are otherwise stored or broadcasted.

Have you checked if the issue occurs across other activity profiles? Try changing or adding other real-time HR data fields like HR Gauge etc to see if you get any values. Do same for average HR fields.

Definitely do a soft reset by holding down the light button until power off as that might resolve any residual issues.
