Cannot disable self-evaluation

I was reading the thread about the recent change in behaviour regarding touch screen and self evaluation.

In my case I'd prefer not to bother with it at all so tried disabling it using "Run Settings -> Self Evaluation" setting to "Off".

But I still see them so I think it's probably a bug. I think it started occurring in a relatively recent F/W 18.xx or 19.xx

Can anyone confirm - Is there somewhere else I need to disable it?

Thanks

  • Whilst i'm using the 965 , FW is similar and I don't have that issue , but I have Self Evaluation to Workouts Only.

OK, I did a quick test with it to "off" and I had no issue.

I tested  "always" and it asked for the evaluation

Then back to Workout Only, and it didn't.

So for me it seems to work as expected.

Maybe toggle it On / Off and try again.

I do have the same touch screen off and then cannot set self evaluation with touch issue that is reported (I did it as a test, as I generally have touch on)

  • Thanks very much for running that test. I tried again with a similar experiment and indeed this time didn't get asked for the evaluation.

The other factor I forgot to mention is that all of my recent runs have been following workouts set by Garmin Coach.

Which makes me wonder if maybe it's impossible to disable self evaluation for those...

The Garmin coach training is due to complete next week. I'll run some more experiments when it's done.

  • Thats interesting , I load workouts from Garmin Connect and then I get asked for evaluation (as I have evaluation for workouts enabled).. I haven't loaded a workout and tried with evaluations  off....so many permutations!

  • Ok I tried a workout with OFF and WORKOUTS ONLY for Self Evaluation

With Workouts Only - It asked for evaluation

With OFF, It didn't ask for self evaluation

So that seems to work correctly for me

These are self created workouts (from Training peaks via Garmin Connect) , not from Garmin Coach though, although I don't know why that would work differently,

As an aside , I have multiple RUN profiles with different settings for different eventualities

    For example:

RUN Quietly - Segment alerts are off

RUN Segments - Segment alerts are on

This gives one the way to choose different alternatives without having to keep changing settings

  • Thanks again for your help by running these experiments. I tried creating a workout myself in Garmin Connect. Self evaluation for this indeed follows the correct settings as you found.

Looking back through my previous activities in Garmin Connect I can see that a couple weeks ago I did a run outside of Garmin Coach - this does not have a perceived effort set whereas all other recent runs done via Garmin Coach does.

So I strongly suspect this is it - For workouts set via Garmin Coach it's impossible to disable the self evaluation.

  • I can confirm. Half a year ago I trained with Garmin Coach and it annoyed me big time I always had to complete self evaluation. I stopped working with the coach...

  • Thanks for confirming. I wonder if Garmin Coach uses the answer to determine the intensity of the following workouts - but I doubt it.

It's a mildly irritating inconsistency/bug, but probably not the worst of the current crop.

  • Annoyed as I was I always gave the worse score I could tap. I do not think that influenced the Garmin Coach training plan.

  • All,

The self evaluation input will always be prompted after Garmin Coach workouts. This is currently by design.
