High battery usage

Hi,

All of a sudden, my 955 Solar has started using lots of battery; something on the order of 25% of a single day (previously, 10% would be more common). I'm on 18.27, so it may or may not be related to a recent software upgrade. This is in idle—I have not recorded any activities since I charged yesterday, and I am already down to 73%.

I've talked to a number of other 955 users who are experiencing the same issue. None of us have changed any settings recently.

  • On new 19.18fw, updated, turned off the watch by holding light button. After next day I loaded Komoot route, check it, loaded, started the activity and discarded it, then exited and locked the watch. BTW, vibration after lock/unlock is really ANNOYING and unnecessary. Went to bed with about 65% battery, woke up with 21%. Pulse OX OFF. I have no idea why. Previously, I was putting the watch in airplane mode after the activity and that drained the battery...till 10 sec light button hold. GARMIN STILL HAS NOT RESOLVED THAT ISSUE, as far as I know. They replaced my FR955 1.5 years ago, but the same thing with the new, firmware/software issue + I think that the new one has slightly worse battery life.

Another thing. Yesterday turned on the sensors for HR, for cadence and when I went to turn on the Varia Radar, the watch restarted.

  • reset made no difference at all.  Overnight and a 1 hour walk and batter is down 33%.

  • I logged my issue with Garmin via email and today got the response and exchange process.  Mine is  still in warranty ( bought it when it was first released so I think most 955's would still be in warranty?).  Refurbished model to be shipped once I send this one back.  No questions from Garmin regarding the issue, only what I had posted in my original email - which was quite a short and sharp description of the issue and the steps I had done.

  • My replacement 955 Solar arrived a couple of days ago and all seems good with the battery life.  The Return and replacement process was very easy and fast, and although it's a reconditioned replacement it looks and feels like new.  of course it doesn't solve the mystery of what caused the overnight battery drain with my original 955 but I'm happy enough with how Garmin responded and replaced my device.
