FR955 Solar freezing many times a day

This is happening last 1-2 weeks, I tried to connect to Express - did not help, plus there is no available soft. update and this is unbearable, please solve asap, I do not have time to deal with this anymore. If you do not solve it, I am going away from Garmin, this is unbelievable, I bought the watch 1+ year ago. Please find attached screenshot from Garmin Connect aplication about the watch itself.

  • I’ve not had any issues like this on 19.13. What is freezing? Could it be a 3rd party watch face causing the issue? Try a generic Garmin watch face or a soft reset by holding power button until the watch switches off then part back on again.

  • Not to be that guy, but you do understand that this a beta software. I do not have freezing issues on standard software (18.27) and I have not tested 19.x but since others are not experiencing this, it might be a 3rd party conflict with this beta software.

Try issuing a bug report here: https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/forerunner-955-series/public-beta-bug-reports/i/public-beta-version-19-xx

Or perhaps revert to released software branch to see if the problem goes away.

  • This morning I found the watch frozen again, took me many attemts to reboot, it behaves as if the button does not react each time. The watch face was not a problem before, I even changed the watch face to a diffetent one during the period when I was already experiencing the issues, made no change. This morning I changed the watch face to the original Garmin one. I will see.

In case I want to reverse the software from the beta version, back to the last official released one, how can I do it, can you advise please?

  • You need to do a little problem solving. Does it happen using touch screen only? Could it be a button hardware problem instead, are all buttons affected?

Software revert instructions are in the Beta forum where you enrolled here https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/w/beta-wiki/145/how-to-return-to-live-software

Contact support if you still need more help.

  • I do not think the problem has anything to do with any button. It also drain the battery much faster, I believe it is the beta ver. release problem and I almost do not touch the screen at all.

When the problem occurs, I can not do anything with the watch no buttons react, nor screen, it just freezes, only what can be done with a huge amount of patience get the watch switched off by keeping the top left button pressed for like 15 seconds or so, but it does not work each time, often I have to repeat the switch off button push several times. Strange that others do not experience this.

I changed the watch face to deafult one this morning, and if it turns out that it did not help I will cease from beta to released software version, I do not have patience for this, I will let you know.

  • Hi there

This is the wrong forum to post this issue. When you signed up for beta releases you also got the information about where to report issues - in the beta forum.

Having said that. Use a Garmin Stock watchface,Power of the watch wait one minute and turn on the watch again and then  hopefully the issues are gone.

Garmin support won't be able to help you as you are running a beta version.

    Thanks

  • That was a huge mistake to agree with beta version, I do not have time for this, I need the watch to serve my needs Slight smile

Changing the watch face to default one seems resolved the problems, since then, been like 12 hours and the issue has not occurred anymore.

But I like the watch face I removed, so that's a pity.

    Thanks all for your help.

  • Glad to hear you’re sorted! Beta’s are general stable albeit sometimes introduce bugs or resurface old ones! I’ve had no problems with 19.13 thankfully, even with my favourite Neat Weather 3rd party watch face which I’ve been using for years now.

Hopefully you can use your preferred watch face again following the next public release. Perhaps feedback your findings so the 3rd party developer can work on a timely fix if it’s required!

  • It froze again at 5am. Will definitely need to switch to a official release.

  • I had same problem. Started to occur randomly after about 6 months of using. FW had nothing to do about that. It turned out that in my case it was a button, as they claimed. Defective series. I contacted my local support and they replaced my watch.
