Yeah the latest betas have brought over stuff from Fenix/Epix that was previously missing in the similar Forerunner firmware, like:
- haptics (now the watch vibrates when you scroll through the glances…
Sorry by “latest betas” I mean the last few betas, including the latest one. And every stable build was once a beta afaik.
I also think it’s possible that double tap on map was added before…
You are right. I don't have beta, but latest stable release and I do have double tap on the map already. I was not even aware as it was to announced in the release notes
Yeah the latest betas have brought over stuff from Fenix/Epix that was previously missing in the similar Forerunner firmware, like:
- haptics (now the watch vibrates when you scroll through the glances, for example)
- double tap on map like you said
- explicit "map only" touch setting for activities. (activity touch options now consist of "on", "off", and "map only"). previously the map screen followed the activity setting, then it was changed to follow the general setting (neither of those choices made everyone happy.)
There's probably some other stuff I haven't noticed.
Credit goes to Garmin for further unifying this stuff.
EDIT: there's now a "T9" keyboard (without predictive text), as an alternative to the circular keyboard. when using touch, the new keyboard is a lot more efficient than the circular keyboard, but ofc the downside is it *requires* touch

I also think it’s possible that double tap on map was added before the very latest beta, but I’m not 100% sure.
I just meant that this is the stuff that’s been added in recent firmware. Thought it was worth mentioning bc there was a bunch of talk in the forums, on youtube, etc about how Fenix, Forerunner and Epix had slightly different software, and now some of those differences are being eliminated. (I’m aware there are still differences, like additional power manager modes and lap by position in Fenix, but that’s the kind of stuff that will probably not come to forerunner.)
...Lap by position? interesting...
Yeah I think this was on some really old forerunners, but for some reason it’s been removed but fenix (and fr745) still have it.
