Spotify took the place of my music controls - don't know how to get to mp3 files loaded onto watch

I have a Garmin Forerunner 955. I loaded a bunch of music onto it and was able to listen to it without issue. UNTIL I added Spotify. Now my "Music Controls" control on the watch doesn't let me control the mp3 files I loaded onto the watch, it just lets me control Spotify.

But I cancelled my Spotify Premium and Uninstalled Spotify. However, that Spotify control is still on the watch! And when I click it, my watch just crashes and restarts. So I'm not sure how to get to my music. I hope the answer isn't going to be to do a factory reset.

  • Do you change the configuration under: menu >> music >> music providers?

    I have three options:

    Spotify

My music (which you must select for you case)

    Control phone

  • Under Music > Music Providers I see

    MyPodcasts under Installed

    And Spotify under Not Installed

That seems odd considering what I am seeing on my watch right?

  • Clearly it's a bug on Garmin's end.

    - The last music provider you used was Spotify

    - You uninstalled Spotify

    - Now when you open music controls on your watch, the watch wants to use the last music provider (Spotify), but it no longer exists. Instead of doing something reasonable (like defaulting to a provider that does exist on the watch), the watch crashes. Sorry to say, this kind of bug doesn't surprise me. (It's an edge case that clearly wasn't tested.)

Now that the bug is known (someone from garmin voted on the answer), hopefully it will be fixed.

Having said all of that, as a workaround you should be able to switch music providers as previously suggested.

For anyone else reading this thread, the full procedure is:

    - start at the watchface

    - Hold UP for settings

    - Select Music

    - Select Music Providers

    - Select a music provider (in this case, My Music)

  • You have to do this configuration on the watch.

What you described seems to be the interface of Garmin Connect or Garmin Express.

If you check the configuration direct from your watch, you will see the option I said before.

  • The detailed instructions were just what I needed, thank you! This is now resolved.
