Change navigation default zoom level

I've recently had a few issues on trail runs where the path forks, and the watch is on a zoom level where I cannot even see the fork. I have enter the menu, choose Zoom, add then a level or two, to know where I need to go. Is it possible to statically change the default zoom level to a more detailed one? The whole issue would not have mattered if turn-by-turn actually gave directions for forks, but I guess that's never going to happen(?).

  • I thought the 955 had Next Fork routing already? (I don’t run trails that often so I haven’t tried it.)

Just yesterday I was looking for default zoom settings. From what I can tell it’s not possible. I follow very dense routes in the city for CityStrides and the default zoom level and auto-zoom were useless. I’ve since turned off auto-zoom and now I just dial in my preferred zoom level at the beginning of each run.

  • Isn’t the selected level of zoom retained for all course maps? I have auto zoom switched off and if I zoom in to 30ft then I’m pretty sure that level is maintained across course maps. But I’m questioning myself now.

Is it maybe just an issue for non course navigation or when auto zoom is still enabled?

  • just my thoughts. In my memory it is remembering the latest zoom level. But it has been a while that I used navigation the last time

  • I merely wanted to say thanks for the suggestions to switch off the auto zoom and stick with a detailed zoom level. It may not be elegant, but it works. Thanks!

For Garmin if anyone cares: The "next fork" indication is not reliable enough and the navigation on the watch appears to only be aware of the shape of the course, not the underlying map. I was hoping for something more akin to what you get on the Edge cycling computers, but I guess that's too much to ask.

  • Auto zoom was broken in v18 software and still hasn't been fixed :(

It worked fine in previous software version. The same story with the next fork alert function. Anybody know how to go back to v17?
