Touchscreen becomes unresponsive

Just got my Forerunner 955 and noticed that touchscreen becomes unresponsive, buttons still work but touchscreen is unusable and its very frustrating. Software version: 18.23.

From searching on the internet I have realised that it turns out a common problem. How to resolve this?

  • I don’t think you can permanently resolve it, but the workaround (for anyone else reading this) is to turn the touchscreen off and on. (This can be done through the controls menu, accessible by holding the Light button.)

  • Well that's a huge disappointment... I was reading through similar thread here and the issue goes way back since the release of Forerunner 955 and it still hasn't been fixed. It seems that it is something that can't be fixed with software update, its got to be related to the hardware... Such a let down...

  • Has anyone else experienced this bug recently?

  • Yes, I had one unit replaced because of a very laggy touch performance. At random times during the day it would only act as desired upon roughly ten taps or swipes. It would continue to act that way until I restarted it. The buttons worked flawlessly. I did not have any apps or widgets installed.

The new watch worked fine at first but then also began with similar issues. This time it was because of software installed. I had

    - Spotify

    - Regen (Rain prediction and alarm widget)

The latter had a background service connecting to my phone in some intervals. I believe this being the problem.

BTW the lag was much worse that with the Garmin Hydration Widget. That one also slowes everything down but only by a bit and on a consistent level. It also only seemed to affect touch input and would kick in strongly at certain times/events.

Since I deleted absolutely everything installed it workes flawlessly again.

I am not sure whether this is SW or HW in all cases. I case you have something installed, first try the watch with nothing on it. It may play a role in it

  • I had regen also installed and that was the reason my battery depleted fast. After removing regen it works fine
