Crack where the band connects to the watch case

Hi,

On November 24, 2023, I purchased the Garmin 955 watch. Initially, I was very satisfied with its features and performance. Unfortunately, my positive experience was interrupted by an unexpected malfunction. Already on February 15, 2024, I noticed a crack on the watch case where it connects to the strap. This is particularly surprising considering that the watch is in perfect condition - there isn't even a single scratch on it. I reported this situation to Garmin's customer service, but unfortunately, the claim was rejected on the grounds of mechanical damage. Has anyone else had similar experiences with Garmin watches? I was hoping that Garmin watches are designed to last longer then 3 MONTHS

  • Has anyone else had similar experiences with Garmin watches?

    Personally: No.

Had the Forerunner 245 for over two years, no cracks.

The Forerunner 255 for about half a year, no cracks.

Upgraded to Forerunner 955 about one year ago, no cracks.

Also never heard from someone having this problem. So either you have just bad luck or maybe you hit something accidentally and this caused the crack. I would try again with Garmin support and claim that there is no evidence for bashing and this must be a problem of manufacturing.

  • I am glad you didn't have any troubles with your Garmin products, but others (including me) has :(

Here is official Garmin statment about 245 cracking case. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=6enIZ1uhpU6SZBW3B0MCQ7

Here is Reddit post about that: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.reddit.com/r/Garmin/comments/z8do3f/forerunner_245_broke/&ved=2ahUKEwi3hfqO4dWEAxXkRvEDHZC6DCwQFnoECBoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw06MhG2Tc8zb72DcRaQyJMa

Here redit post about similar issues in diffrent watch series: www.reddit.com/.../

I am not telling that all the 955 watches have this problem. I may buy wrong batch or just have bad lack but as i wrote there is no mark/evidence of any impact on the watch despite crack. I can post video of it or uploud more images.

  • I know the 635 series did also have that issue. you could read the 635 forum about it if you wish. I never had any problem though.

  • First try using warranty. In my country, there is warranty beyond what the manufacturers give as their product guarantees. There universally is 2 years of warranty and for the first 12 months the manufacturer has to prove that a defect was a user error, not the other way around. That means that the first seller of the product has to take it back. I am sure there is something similar in your country.

If that is not the case, try contacting Garmin again. I had this happening on my 4 years old vivoactive and the support admitted this to be a quality issue. That is why I got a brand new one at that time.

If this doesn't work out, there are original replacement parts on AliExpress. Just get the back casing and consult someone on doing the repair. Make sure they know what they are doing as the GPS antenna usually is at the outer line of the screen glass. Your watch won't be waterproof after that.

By no means keep wearing it like that. You will loose it as it breaks fully. You could even consider selling it on eBay like it is.
