Inconsistent HR during trainings on Forerunner 955 Solar 17.26 and 18.23

My heart rate jumps up and down and all over the place during cyling, like there's some delay, see the attached screenshots.

3 seconds later

This weird HR reading happens during broadcasting my HR from the watch to Edge 840 or to PC with Zwift (via Wahoo Kickr). During a day or night there are no jumps and the spikes are smooth and relatable.

My watch sits firmly on my wrist, no moving there.

Also I find suggestions like "get HRM strap instead" out of place. My watch should be accurate enough, provided it functions as intended.

Is there a fix (coming) for this issue?

Thank you.

  • Totally agree with this. It's been functional earlier and started making weird readings few weeks ago. I also use strap and the watch shows often 30-40 lower hr. Also when just walking outside HR can be something between 40-180 when real reading is around 100, it's totally useless and definitely a problem in software.

  • I believe asking for permissions to contact via email also serves the purpose taking the discussion out of here.

Is there any news on how Garmin is going to fix it?

  • One month later there is still no fix or even acknowledgement or at least response.

Another ride today, still weird readings with jumps.

The watch definitely doesn't function as it should. This is very disappointing from garmin.

  • This is getting even more ridiculous

Today I went for a quick and intense ride, right off the bat I cycled at 80-90% of my capacity but for a good third of the ride my watch read ~80 bpm while I was clearly at 150-160 almost gasping for air.

What caused the watch to "wake up" at 19 minute mark I don't know, it just happened. I changed nothing, not my grip, nothing.

Considering that based on HR readings garmin calculates much more data like my stamina, readiness, etc etc, I can't trust this data anymore.

My Garmin Forerunner 955 is garbage and I can not recommend to anyone buying this sh*t.

  • It must be faulty unit! Mine works just fine if it’s only measuring device. I get weird readings now only if i’m doing a workout with belt and Edge as main units, then FR measures does not record anywhere but shows only 80-90 when real hr is at least 50 higher.

  • This issue is getting worse:

  • At this point I believe garmin knows about it, they just do not communicate it with the customers for some reason. Maybe because there is no fix ready for this issue so they are just silent about it. This is not how a company should treat their customers though. When the quality of their service declines like that, demand will also decline with time. There is always an alternative on the market.

  • I changed my watch on garmin Support and I have Version 15.19 and I will not update my watch. I had the same issues like many users and I could not use my watch for any activities. The HR was not correct. No fixes since months.

  • Good for youThumbsup

unfortunately garmin does not let me change my watch because they deny that there is something wrong. They are not available per phone and emails are just citing the FAQs no matter what I write. I believe they use AI for those emails.

At this point I can say there is no support.

  • I'm also waiting for a fix. OHR results are dismal. Fortunately I am the happy owner of a Polar H10+ chest strap.
