Cant turn off virtual partner when navigating

How can you turn off virtual partner when navigating a course during a run? I dont want a gray triangle racing me every time I want to navigate a course. So far I have check the run settings, map settings, navigation settings, and also the course settings in the mobile app. Is there anywhere else to change this setting? Its also a little annoying that the virtual partner triangle is larger than the blue triangle showing your actual location.

  • I think you have to delete the Pace Calculator (Virtual Partner) setting from the course itself. You can do this in the Connect website or app by setting the goal pace to 0 (this is especially unintuitive in the app, since you set the pace using spinners and there's no "delete goal"  button)

If you still want to have a copy of the course which has a virtual partner, you could always duplicate the course.

EDIT: sorry in the app you have to set the goal time to 0 to clear out both fields, whereas on the website you can clear out either field directly (and the other field will be cleared), but it doesn’t work anyway

  • So if I look at the course on the Connect app it already has no pace value set for Virtual Partner. (I added some pictures of what it currently looks like in the Connect app without pace values set.) Whats interesting is that when I load it to my watch and select the course on my watch it gives me a random completion time for the course and I think it sets the Virtual Partner based on that time (and I cant edit that time in the watch).

So do I have to change the pace in the app for each course from “nothing” to 0:00 every time? That seems unnecessary but I guess Ill try that on my next run (maybe it will force the course time on the watch to 0:00 instead of choosing a random time). And then I would guess that the Virtual Partner triangle will just sit at the start/end point.  It would be way easier if there was a just navigation setting to turn on/off Virtual Partner  (global setting or setting by activity profile).

  • No, setting the goal time to 0:00 in the app has the effect of clearing out both fields. I assumed this would turn off the virtual partner, but I was wrong.

Sounds like this is a bug (or feature request) which needs to be reported to Garmin support.
