Skiing activity does not export full GPS track

We had a few glorious weeks where this worked properly, now again it doesn't, it's so disappointing. The auto-lap feature for skiing is very mediocre. I have to leave it on to get somewhat-accurate vertical descent data in Strava, so that's fine. But I very very much do not want it to cut out the sections it believes are ascents from the GPS track.

Here is a zoom in of a recording from February the 11th:

here's the same area on Strava:

This looks great. My heatmaps and whatnot have very clean data that puts the lift where the lift is.

Here are this (2/18) weekend's rides on the same lift:

as you can see, what it decides is 'lift' is kind of all over the place. With the 'new' behavior of not exporting lift data, what this means is that the top terminal is all over the place, and the map looks like garbage

All I want Garmin to do here is continuously record data, tag an approximate lap so that vertical descent works, and upload all of the data. I know you can because between ~12/18/2023 and ~2/18/2024 it worked beautifully.

I know other people get all weird about getting a PR for the lift ride on Strava, so whatever give them an option to avoid that. But please please just go back to sending all of the GPS data.

(I wanted to think this was a watch firmware 18.20 issue, but if that's the case why does my Connect upload look fine and only my Strava data looks like garbage?)
