North America map keeps updating and freezing screen when plugging in watch. How do I stop the map from auto downloading just when plugging it in to charge?

I plug in the phone to charge it, North America map tries to auto download. You cannot cancel it without restarting the watch and it is becoming a pain.

  • Hello, I have the FR 965 and it’s doing the same thing. Need help fixing this or successfully updating the navigation map while watch is plugged

  • Have you tried to cancel update from GCM?

And, yes this looks pita, but those maps are about 4GB of data. Such small power device needs time to download this.

I have left my watch connected to charger overnight and in the morning all was done. New map and fully charged watch.

    Should you try this?

  • A while ago in this thread ( forums.garmin.com/.../ ) silmilar problems where mentioned. For me it helped to delete the Folder "Internal/Garmin/UpdateManager" from the watch.. Don't seem to have any problems since but noone from garmin responded if doing that might be a bad idea or not..

  • Thanks this tip worked for me after a map update, I had the "Start Map Download" prompt on the watch when connecting to the PC with the charge cable, with all my maps up to date. Deleting the folder got rid of the prompt, I noticed afterward the folder is re written as well.
