Fields of run activity data screen replaced with timer field

I noticed today that the "distance" and "pace" fields of the first data screen for "run" activity had randomly been replaced with "timer". I didn't notice until towards the end of the activity as I'd been following a workout set by the garmin coach where the first screen is replaced with a special screen related to the activity.

No idea how it happened. I wondered if it might have been accidental screen touches either during the activity or before, but I can't think of an obvious way to get to that setting with screen touches alone.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

  • If you have touch enabled, what probably has happened is that "something" (your wet sleeve, for example) has caused a long touch of a field, which starts editing it (and defaults to timer). Then another accidental touch automatically confirms the change.

But if the change happened on a field on a page that's not visible, then the accidental touch would've also had to swipe pages for that to happen...

And yes, it's frustrating. This is why I've disabled touch from a couple of my activity types.

  • Yes that's almost certainly what happened, possibly during a previous activity and I hadn't noticed. I didn't even know it was possible to edit the fields directly with the long touch so thanks very much for the reply.

Most useful for me would be to enable touch only for map screens for any activity, and for any widget that makes use of touch (e.g. for scrolling left/right in heart rate screen). I don't need/want touch for anything else. But I don't think such a setting is possible despite the multitude of touch options.

  • As a workaround, I've set the "Hold BACK" hotkey setting to toggle the touch setting. This way I can have touch normally disabled for the run activity but a long press of the BACK/lap button can quickly enable touch if I want it for map panning.
