Forerunner 955 Solar glass broke for no good reason??

Finished a 10k run (watch fine as I check my stats on finish) charged my watch while I showered (perfectly fine when I put it back on) and then started to cook pancakes. While I'm cooking I glance at my wrist and realise my brand new Garmin has a crack right across the face.

The watch is 2 weeks old and has never been dropped or knocked and has only been off my wrist to charge so WTAF??

I will contact support on Monday but this really is an unacceptable problem on an expensive watch. It can only be a manufacturing fault that I hope Garmin will replace under warranty.

I will let you know.

  • Let me know how you go I also put mine down to charge as I had a shower. Picked it up and put it on and noticed that I have a straight crack running from the right hand lower band arm up to approximately the middle of the top of the screen. I have read a few reviews ans it seems to be straight cracks people are getting. I wonder if the glass material is not flexible enough in the plastic housing that is creating the screen to crack.

Mine is also just 2 weeks old and never had a knock or been dropped

I am following this up on Monday this week coming with Garmin also

  • There is starting to be a few more complaints of screens cracking in forums and in the comment sections. I wonder if this was the reason for it being half price as there is a defect in the watch

  • It is just strange there is a gap on right side. I sure does look like there is a misaligned screen protector on. Unfortunately, the crack does seem to go all the way to the way to the plastic.

  • so WTAF??

Well, this happens to every smartphone, smartwatch and smartwhatsover producer sometimes. Maybe you heard, that Google had problems with cracking glass on their Pixel (7? I think) cameras

Probably happens, because manufacturing is not done correctly and there is tension on the glass. The price of the device has nothing to do with it, it's just bad luck if you happen to get one of these.

I hope Garmin will replace under warranty.

    Yeah, probably.
I had no issues with my Garmin watches until now, but regarding problems with HRM straps, the support was very helpful and sent me replacements right away when I needed them.
    Just contact support.garmin.com
