Marathon training plan + PacePro racing strategies

Good morning all,

I’m due to run my first marathon in April, so in preparation for this I’m using the Garmin marathon training plan  ( intermediate level )

I’d like to complete the marathon in under 4 hours so I’d like to use the PacePro racing strategies to help me achieve this.

is it possible to use merge these two plans together? Or is it possible to use them in conjunction with each other?

any help or suggestions appreciated, still learning my my around the Garmin app and features.

  • Hi there,

Those are two completely separated things.

Training plan guides you when do which workouts to maximize your potential to achieve goal over several weeks before race.

PacePro is your personalized reminder during Race to keep you updated if your pace is within predefined range.

Training plan is your Coach suggesting you should do today Base run or Tempo or have a rest. You should implement other workouts like Strength, Stretching other sports yourself.

PacePro will keep you during race with information if you are still ahead your potential goal (under 4 hours; 5:30 min/km) or a bit behind and if you feel strong you should speed up to catch rhythm.

PacePro you create with particular Course in mind. Include elevation changes.

Training Plan could be used in general for any route you run.

I suggest you create Course which you will use during one of your Long Runs scheduled in your Plan and then Create PacePro strategy for it .

It will help you to be familiar how it works, what to observe on the watch during race. Maybe setup Sound Alerts or navigation.
