FR 955 The ski profile has broken

This winter, something bad happened to the ski profile on my Forerunner 955. Last year, it recorded activity correctly (apart from the known problem of not marking the chairlift entries to the peak). This year it practically stopped recording anything. During the first activity, it recorded only the first descent, then the track broke off. Later, the watch did not record time or distance, even though auto pause was turned off. The second time, it didn't register anything at all, only the first second after turning on the activity.
Anyone had such a problem? I reset the ski profile, but I don't know if it's enough, I don't want to lose any further activities. Maybe someone who has this profile working properly could send it to me as a file.

  • Hi, I'm having the same issue... what do you mean by "removing" the app? Just remove it ia the Garmin connect menu, and then add it again to the list?
    Thanks

  • Either through the Connect Menu via cable or on the watch itself.

  • In my observation there are 3 different issues with the ski activity at the moment (maybe all related somehow):

    1) runs are not recorded / detected properly at all (e.g. I made several runs but watch was automatically stuck at "auto pause" for several runs).

For this part, what worked for me is to start the activity just right before your first downhill, not uphill (lift) as I used to.

    2) autopause setting for ski activity is not preserved. No matter what you set in watch or Connect, it always sets back to "Off".

As I have "Autorun" set to on, this setting does not bother me much... I even don't understand how it's supposed to work in conjunction with the autorun feature.

    3) runs & distances are summarised with uphills included so wrong totals are reported to Strava, for example. There is already a confirmed bug for this part (see 965 thread).

can you pls comment on this (what is already acknowledged as bug from what I wrote). Thanks!

  • EDIT: Adding and removing the app appears to set "auto pause" to OFF, which fixes the "yellow circle" problem. A quicker workaround is just to set "auto pause" to "Off".

In the mobile app, you can turn of auto-pause by navigating to your device setttings->Activities & Apps->Ski->Auto Pause->Mode->Off. You can do the same from the watch face inside the Ski app settings.

Tried @lx1no's solution and ski mode worked perfectly this morning. Tracked all of the runs and lifts. It seems crazy that this would fix it, but one can hope Fingers crossed

On the watch face, here's a detailed sequence to remove, then add the ski activity. From your normal watch face:

    1. press start-stop button to go to activity selection
    2. navigate down until you get to your ski activity (you might have to go into favorites)
    3. hold up/menu button to open settings
    4. press down until you get to Remove App
    5. Press start/stop to remove the ski app
    6. press down until you get to the big "add" button, then start/stop to select
    7. press down to Winter Sports, then start-stop to select
    8. choose Ski and set as favorite

I'll try this again in a bit and see if it continues working. Fingers crossed.

  • RichardS,

Thank you for listing those concerns in detail. See below.

    1. Yes, we are aware that the watch is staying on the 'pause' screen with Auto Pause enabled. For now, please turn Auto Pause OFF and leave Auto Run on. We are looking into possible adjustments.
    2. We are aware of this as well, and recommend keeping that setting Off for the time being regardless.
    3. If you are speaking of Skiing: double counting runs, this should be fixed on our current beta, 18.12.
