Forerunner 955 did not track ski runs

Hi there, at the beginning of the ski season I have discovered that the watch did not track my ski runs. Stayed on a something like pause mode(yellow circled screen).
Last season it used to be working with just start of the activity and when I stop it in the end of the day it used to be showing everything, now barely track only one ski run for the day. Happened two days in a row, tried with lap button, but second day no runs at all. Auto run is set ON

  • I've never had a problem with GPS tracking even under a jacket, it is very clearly a change in the autostart / autopause function that is the problem here.

  • I got mine to work as well.

I had to do settings directly in settings and not from started activity.

So long press up directly from watch face and to activities and to ski.

there I changed auto paus on and off a couple of times and stoped with auto pause turned off.

After that all remaining ski sessions was recorded ok and I could feel the 955 vibration every time like 20m in every lift ride and same on every ski “run”

  • I have started it right before going downhill and it didn’t work at all. It was paused, all the time

  • I noticed this. Watchface totally wrong. Garmin app seemed to correct it. Too late for strava upload though which has the bad data.

  • I had the exact same problem yesterday (January 8th, 2023) on my Forerunner 965. Same behavior with the yellow circle.

  • EDIT: Adding and removing the app appears to set "auto pause" to OFF, which fixes the "yellow circle" problem. A quicker workaround is just to set "auto pause" to "Off".

In the mobile app, you can turn of auto-pause by navigating to your device setttings->Activities & Apps->Ski->Auto Pause->Mode->Off. You can do the same from the watch face inside the Ski app settings.

    Old post below:
I had this issue as well, but I tried a workaround suggested by @lx1no in this other thread. After removing the ski "app" and adding it back, ski mode worked perfectly this morning. The watch tracked all of my runs and lifts perfectly, with no dreaded yellow circle. It seems crazy that this would fix it, but one can hope Fingers crossed

On the watch face, here's a detailed sequence to remove, then add the ski activity. From your normal watch face:

    1. press start-stop button to go to activity selection
    2. navigate down until you get to your ski activity (you might have to go into favorites)
    3. hold up/menu button to open settings
    4. press down until you get to Remove App
    5. Press start/stop to remove the ski app
    6. press down until you get to the big "add" button, then start/stop to select
    7. press down to Winter Sports, then start-stop to select
    8. choose Ski and set as favorite

Note: I also turned off auto-pause in the Ski activity settings (mobile app->device setttings->Activities & Apps->Ski->Auto Pause->Mode->Off). Maybe that's what fixed it?

Maybe some other folks can try this and see if it works for you? I'll go out skiing again in a bit and see if it continues working. Fingers crossed.

  • Two days skiing and not a run was recorded.  Very similar issue to what's been discussed.  Very frustrating.

  • do you have auto pause enabled?
