Last update 17.26 is very buggy

The last update brought some very nice features, but lots of bugs.

The watch freezes almost every morning, and if not in the morning, it freezes at any time of the day, but most often in the morning.

Weather is not working correctly, most of the time it shows an exclamation mark with no data.

Battery draining - this day it dropped from 30% to 12% in 5 hours.

The watch does not synchronize regularly (when I force synchronization in Garmin Connect after a long time, it takes quite a long time, as if it was transferring data for a whole day), it also shows older notifications, but when I want to see them, they are no longer in the list.

And all this is accompanied by occasional UI slowdown.

  • It can be a cause, but it's by no means the only one. Garmin firmware is rarely free of bugs - even the production releases.

  • Same issues. Notifications turn the screen black and the watch freezes with no buttons responding. Happening multiple times a day now and every restart depletes the battery on the watch by ~10%.

  • Should put all issues into one thread, my experience so far:
#1. Drains more batt since 17.24 update. Based on my habit, used to drop 2% in day time, now about 3%. Not significant but noticeable. Perhaps due to the additional nap monitoring?

#2. More laggy but not freezing. e.g. after run, used to be able to press into the activity immediately, now will take sometime (waiting for the circular animation) before the activity data loads.

  • Has anyone from Garmin responded to this.  It's a big problem.  The Forerunner 955 is super expensive.  My watch is less than a year old and it is basically useless after the 17.26 update.  Constantly freezing, battery draining super fast...is there a way to revert back?  I mean this is ridiculous and they better be ready to send us all replacements or something cause I won't buy another Garmin if this is what to expect from a $500 watch

  • We need to find out what causes it. I have the solar version, my wife without solar and we have no problems with freezing. And I note that we have watches on our hands non-stop and we use them all the time.

  • Have you contacted Garmin support to report your issues?

  • I just submitted one so hopefully will hear back soon.

  • FR955 Solar working like a charm with the 17.26 since the first day with no problem at all.

  • Try doing this:

Go to settings, set the values in the settings to different values and then set them back (not very likely, just to be sure).

Try going to the weather, go to the weather menu and try to sync your current location using GPS.

Run an activity for a while (running, cycling, ...), maybe there is a file that gets overwritten when you turn on the activity and it won't cause a problem anymore. (also less likely)

Try uninstalling the unofficial watch skins if that doesn't work either.

Hope some of this helps, because fast draining is definitely not good for a watch battery.

  • 3% vs 2% is a 50% increase. half the life time on a full battery charge. I would call this significant.
