I think I found a solution to this. On my 945, I switched the default music app from Spotify to the Garmin one, played a song, then switched back and the controls are visible and working again.
Same problem. While running music stopped and it was not possible to start again. Library was visible. Watch was connected to BT headphone (running feedback was OK). Next day I was not able to start music again. I noticed that it lost sync with Spotify. Connecting to PC started a full sync with Spotify (8 minutes) and after that it seems ok during my 80 minute run.
As you all mention Spotify I assume you have no problem with other Music apps.
Anyway, have you tried update Spotify via Connect IQ Store?
