Installed this morning at 6am the new software.
It detected a nap from 7:37am to 8:24am when I was sitting in my car scrolling the phone before starting work!
Don't want nap detection, how can I disable it?

All,
I definitely understand the desire for the ability to delete falsely detected naps.
If you would like this option, or see many false naps on your device, please reach out to Garmin Product Support

Yes I do see companies communicating via their forum. Quite a lot companies do this.
The problem with garmin is…
Sleep track on mine works absolutely fine since day one
For info, if you look in GC / Health Stats / Body Battery.... Naps show as Factors at the botto of the screen.

That’s an option that already should have been thought of by Garmin before this was put out.
An option for setting a “nap window” would also be nice. I’ve had naps detected as early as 7:00 am after waking at 6:00 am. That’s not a nap, just me sitting quietly watching TV on a Sunday morning before a run. Let us set the hours for when naps can be auto-detected. Anything outside those hours would have to be started manually.
Agree. This is a good idea but has been very poorly implemented. I personally would like to disable naps since it is really bad at detecting them for me. I prefer to disable bad/useless functions.
Isn’t your role to echo issues over to Garmin support internally ? You work for the same company and can probably do internal requests. I’m pretty sure you have access to the bug tracking and feature tracking software such as Agile or the like. Act like a company and not a load of people in silos!!
Lol at you acting like you know how they work internally. Forums isn’t product support, it’s for users to discuss all things Garmin. We’re lucky when they chime in to help or report things, just do what they say and stop complaining. You don’t see other companies communicating with users on their forum platform.

The problem with garmin is that it is a strictly divided company. Some work on bug fixing. They don’t talk to the new features division. People who implement new features for the outdoorsy watches don’t talk to people who implement new features for the sport watches. In the end, it is marketing who decide watches need more features. Marketing doesn’t care if features work, or are useable or accurate. As long as garmin watches have a longer feature list than the ones from Polar, Suunto or Coros, marketing knows it will sell more watches.
This is getting worse. Another Sunday morning and another false nap while I sit around waiting for it to warm up a bit before my run. This time the nap length is different on the 955 than it is in Garmin Connect. The 955 shows 46 minutes but GC only 29 minutes. Start time is the same but end time is different. How’s that possible if GC gets its info from the 955?
I have to say that after first false nap after the installation of new firmware I haven't had anymore false detections
Noticed today on Garmin Connect that you can edit or delete a nap under Sleep Coach. Can also add a nap. Not sure how long it’s been there.
The nap edit will not sync back to the watch, and its impact on other metrics (like sleep score or training readiness) will not be revised. So this nap editing feature is cosmetic at best, and misleading at worst.
_____________
While I'm here, not only sleep tracking is bad, but sleep management is generally atrocious. It is completely out of sync with itself. I woke up after sleeping 4 hours (and told the watch that I'm awake, by exiting the sleep mode), then shortly had a nap for 1.5 hours, which I registered by starting a nap. The watch said "Enjoy your nap" and entered the sleep mode. When I woke up, the sleep mode was off. But the watch was somehow thinking I'm napping for 1.5 more hours. I edited the nap in the web version, and right now:
- In Garmin connect app (Sleep section), it shows the correct total sleep duration: 5.5 hours
- In Garmin connect app (Sleep Score section), it shows "Sleep duration" as 4 hours, but for some reason marks it as "Excellent"
- The watch shows the wrong nap (3 hours), and shows total sleep duration as 9 hours, which is nowhere near the real sleep I've had.
This is ridiculous and worse than useless, because it throws out of whack all the performance metrics: training readiness is high because my sleep was "good"...
