HRV, low state for a long time

My HRV has been too low for 4 weeks. I think the watch is measuring wrong. I'm healthy and everything is as it was. No change in lifestyle, sleep, stress, everything ok. My Training Intensity is rather less now.

Does anyone have the same experience?

  • Same for me. HRV is much lower in the last 3-4 weeks than before although nothing changed from training or health perspective. But this has a huge effect on Garmins evaluation of my training efforts and development. Hopefully Garmin fixes that issue fast, because it worked well in the past!

  • Now I no longer think that the HRV values per se are at fault. They seem ok to me and +/- match the values from last year. I simply have a lower HRV in autumn and winter. Last year, this problem didn't show up because I had started using the watch in the autumn of 2022 (I think that's also when Garmin brought this HRV update, but I'm not entirely sure).

    I think there is an error in the interpretation of the readings.

  • It seems like a ton of people are experiencing the same thing. I guess the data is correct, we can’t be experiencing error measures all at the same time. Unless the sensor and measurements are strongly affected by temperature and other factors that change in the colder months. But that seems unlikely to me. So if the raw data is correct, then the baseline needs to adjust faster than has been. Because otherwise the training status get stuck on Strained for weeks or months and it’s useless.

  • I'm experiencing the same issue. Also optical heart rate monitor reading is off during a run. 

  • Agree with you,is not faulty readings ,I use suunto Race on my other wrist and the values are identical, sometimes equal others with 2 or 3 ms difference. The problem is the baseline takes lots of time to adjust to the new reality and then affect all the data from the watch. They should implement a new model or give the option for users reset the baseline and start over again

  • I agree on seasonal influence on HRV. But a drop of 10-12 ms average in two weeks? That is 25% lower, and not slowly decreasing, but all of a sudden. If the readings are correct, than I must be dying now :-)

  • I think the only, but quite fundamental problem is that the algorithm cannot distinguish normal physiological fluctuations from overtraining, although it can apparently handle them, see the slow decline in baseline over weeks.
