Does automatic selection work well?

Does the "automatic selection" setting for satellite systems work well with 16.17? A few months ago I had tried it during some trails where I followed a route on the map but in certain "difficult" sections for reception (dense forest/rocky walls) it wasn't very precise. in the end I switched to "all systems" and I was almost always fine. Opinions on the matter? Battery consumption? Thank you

  • I mostly use it in Auto but switch to ALL when I know the terrain can be tricky (lots of vegetation, high ridges, jogging in the city with lots of buildings, etc and I want more precision). Still even in the city it always works fine with Auto. I always sync the watch to the app before heading out for quick reception. I think the best thing to do is to try your most common route one and another time with different settings and evaluate what works best for you. There are times when you will prefer more accurate tracking with higher battery consumption and other times you will prefer to have longer battery life at the expense of tracking quality. In Auto I had no problems either way.

PS- This since 14.XX, now on 16.17. Using it for cycling I made an estimated calculation some time ago and in ALL mode I had an approximate consumption of 5% per hour recording the track every 1 sec, including sensors (HR Strap, Cadence and Speed).

    Good tip.

Generally I am quite happy with the Auto selection/„SatIQ“ for running, biking and hiking. The plotted tracks and calculated distances are quite consistent.

I have to admit though, that I do train in forests, but only very seldom in difficult conditions with steep canyons or high buildings around.
If you have that, try „All“ and compare, like Ex-6353943 suggested.
