FR 955 added 10000 steps while i sitting... Error or broken device?

I work in an office and on days when I don't do sports I take about 4,000 steps. Today, according to the clock, I took 10,000 steps within an hour of working at the office. At that time, the only place I went was for coffee.

Is this a bug or a broken device?

  • Step count values are estimates and can be thrown off by non-walking movements at times.

Sometimes the movement of a car will cause the watch to register steps while you’re riding in it.

  • I wasn't driving or anything that could count steps on its own. As you can see in the screenshot, there was no activity at that time.

  • Just because there was no recorded activity or  MoveIQ activity doesn’t mean that you couldn’t have been moving.

I also noticed that steps were recorded when I was cheering and clapping for friends at a race recently.

If you weren’t doing anything that the watch could have misinterpreted as steps then it’s certainly possible that your watch is defective.

  • I understand that there are activities that cause step counting, but I have had Garmin watches with this function for many years and I have never counted 10,000 steps within 1 hour.

  • 10,000 steps in an hour is the equivalent of running with a cadence of 166. It also looks like the step count increased at a fairly steady rate over the hour. You could always try restarting the watch, I’ve seen that suggested fairly often for various watch issues.
