Custom Animated Workouts - workaround

Hi community.

This post might be TLDR, but I hope someone will find it useful and maybe Garmin will address this in both GC and Web version.

I have tested this on my FR955 with GC on Android and Web app.

We all knows that animated workouts are by design only limited to those "pre-programmed" https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IPD6X8JSLBAUQOXvz7zBO6

I think there is workaround to have Custom workouts with your preferred set of exercises. Well big number of those, not all of them available.

All you have to do is to Duplicate one of pre-programmed workouts and edit it.

Not all exercises has animation on FR955 (not sure which exists on other compatible watches). Here is a list of those related to Strength activity:

There are 111 of those.

You can add Rounds and other non animated actions like Warm-Up or Cool-Down

There are also animated exercises for HIIT, Pilates, Yoga and Cardio, but I will leave this to your intelligence to discover this.

I have no idea why Garmin is not allowing us to create Custom workouts with animation from scratch.

But I have no expectation to have animation of every possible exercise. Those 111 are good enough for most of us. 

could you confirm / deny this procedure will stay in the future?

  • BTW: 

    A workout can only have 50 steps.

    Hence if you like to have all of preferred ones you would need at least 3 templates.

    Second thing. Barbell Row; Overhead Barbell Press; Pull-Up; Push-Up; Sit-Up, Squat and Weighted Plank do not have animation neither on GC Mobile nor Watch, even those are properly presented on Web app. Weighted Plank is also shorten as Plank and looks very similar to Push-Up

  • If this google doc is correct, something like 146 exercises with animations -  GARMIN CONNECT EXERCICES - Google Sheets

  • Looks like this list is almost correct. It adds 35+ exercises to my list. Some of them as named differently (mostly hyphen missing).

    Few of them like Crunch, Lunge and Run do not have amination on the watch, but shows correctly on GC and Web app.
