Swipe screens while the watch is locked during activity

Hi

I cannot use side buttons to move/swipe the screens while the Garmin F955 is locked during an activity.

I couldn't find the option on the settings and this is the only thing I'm really missing from the Suunto Ambit3 Peak. With the Suunto it was possible to still use side buttons to move through the different displays while the watch was locked during an activity.

Am I missing something or this option is not available?

Thanks

  • Not sure what you are trying to solve. You can turn on auto scroll on, if that is helpful.

  • I think they want to be able to lock buttons such as START and LAP without locking the buttons for switching screens (UP and DOWN). I can totally understand that (although for Garmin, that would be a bit of an issue unless shortcuts like hold UP and hold DOWN would still be locked, otherwise you'd be able to open settings or music player and there'd be no way to get out, assuming touch is also disabled/locked in this scenario.)

    Anyway, unfortunately it's not possible.

  • What you are saying has sense, but there's a middle way. You could have an option where the UP and DOWN buttons are only working to swipe screens while the screen is locked during an activity and holding the buttons WON'T give you access to settings and music. Once the watch is unlocked, then UP and DOWN buttons work for both (swipe screens and access to settings and music, like it is now).

  • A workaround could be to switch wrist. e.g, if the buttons are activated by the hand (which I find very hard, with the right position of the watch) or sleeves, having it on the right wrist will/might prevent that. Just change wrist in user profile, so gesture activation reacts correctly.

Yeah, I agree. That’s what I was suggesting with “unless shortcuts like hold UP and hold DOWN would still be locked”. I feel like Garmin doesn’t typically have the attention to detail to handle edge cases like that. For example, they disable touch on the pause menu (so you don’t accidentally save/discard), but they don’t disable touch on the discard confirmation prompt.

I just don’t really see Garmin implementing this feature at all, either way.
