Strength Training

I can't see how I can edit reps or weight in the strength training. I've tried lots of different combinations to no avail. 'edit weights' option is on, 'rep count' seems to be only allowed to be toggled off, says 'workouts only' when I press into the option on my watch there.. have auto set turned off, but have tried it with that on too. Have created workouts with lap button press and rest period afterwards. It's a really confusing situation, very unuser friendly..

  • I'm sorry you're having some frustration with Strength workouts. I am able to edit my reps and weight, and my settings are as follows:

    • Laps: Auto Lap OFF; Lap Key ON
    • Rep Counting: ON
    • Auto Set: ON
    • Edit Weight: ON

During the activity, pressing the bottom right button should allow you to enter your reps. Let me know if this helps.

Please also check out these tips for your strength activities (taken from the manual):

    • Do not look at the watch while performing reps.

You should interact with the watch at the beginning and end of each set, and during rests.

    • Focus on your form while performing reps.
    • Perform bodyweight or free weight exercises.
    • Perform reps with a consistent, wide range of motion.

Each rep is counted when the arm wearing the watch returns to the starting position.

NOTE: Leg exercises may not be counted.
    • Turn on automatic set detection to start and stop your sets.
    • Save and send your strength training activity to your Garmin ConnectTm account.

You can use the tools in your Garmin Connect account to view and edit activity details.

  • Hi, Thanks for your response. Are you using a Forerunner 955? As I don't seem to be able to turn on Rep Counting on my watch.. when I click into it it says 'Workouts Only'... and has no toggle option for on/off, is just set at off.

    Thanks.

  • Yes I am! After you select Rep Counting, can you scroll up or down? You should see the options for On, Workouts Only, or Off, and should be able to select On from that list. Let me know how it goes.

  • Ahh, Yes, I could scroll up, up past workouts only and up to On.. I had thought this was locked on Off and Workouts Only was a kind of header.. My mistake! Didn’t realise I could scroll up as other options are just toggle on or off. Thank you! Tested it out and it all works now. Phew.. Got there in the end. Do you know if it resets the workout to the sets and weights you adjust it to each time? Or I presume you have to go into workouts and adjust that separately.. Anyhow, at least I can log my actual workouts accurately now. Thanks for your help again.

  • Hi Sierra,

Could you confirm or correct me, but animated strength workouts works only for "preprogrammed" plans in GC?

I can see animation for eg. Hotel Workout but when I create my own set at exercises including few of those from Hotel Workout I cannot see animation on the watch. Only muscle which are going to benefit from it.

I have Animation ON, latest SW.

Is that correct or I should report this as bug?

    Thanks

  • Last note answered my question. Thanks

  • Hi,

With respect to animated workouts, that support article isn’t 100% accurate.
I’ve tested it on a Fenix 6 pro and Garmin support have verified this also on a Tactix 7 that animations are shown for custom workouts.  They do not show on my 955 like with your experience.
If like me you feel that the watch should support this feature then I’d encourage anyone to raise this with Garmin via the feature request option.  It’s entirely possible that this has been enabled on the outdoor lines but not the sport and fitness lines and that article just hasn’t been updated.
If you don’t ask you don’t get.
    Regards Dave
