Using touch on the map during activity

Hi

Is it possible to operate map with finger (touch) during an activity (when touch is disabled for the activity)?

In Fenix 7 you can enable the touch on the map with setting "Map only". In 955 I can see only On/Off in the settings.

The only workaround I found is it hold Power key and then enable touch for the activity and then you can operate the map with your finger.

I heard that 955 = Fenix 7, but in plastic case, so maybe it is possible, but I'm missing something.

Regards.

  • Same question, would be nice to have because like now is useless

  • At least for me (using firmware 16.17, although I'm using a Forerunner 965), I can use touch to pan/zoom the map if touch is disabled for the activity. It's just that to start the zoom/pan, I have to use the buttons (since touch is disabled at that point, as it should be).

One could argue that touch should already be enabled after entering the map screen, but that's probably not what everyone wants, because it would mean that you couldn't leave the watch on map screen when it's raining (if that's why you disabled touch in the first place).

  • Yes, the zoom/pan option is I discovered after I created the topic, so another workaround. If Fenix gives you the option to enable the touch on map only, why not for 955 is someone wishes to do so?

  • Simple: the outdoors watches (like Fenix) and running/sports watches (like Forerunner) used to have separate feature sets and codebases. Now Garmin has started to unify them, but it takes time, and since people have already got accustomed to how things "used to work", Garmin is understandably hesitant in changing the way thinks work. Also, even Fenix got the "map only" option only quite recently.
