FW16.17 issues - Race Predictor/VO2 Max/Training Status and audioprompt

Good morning,

I'm on FW16.17 and I'm having several issues.

- My LTH gets update in the watch, stays visible, but in GC and Mobile the pace is present, but the HR not.

- My LTH on the watch is 4:43/km, the daily suggested training tells me to do a LTH training @ 4:40/km (on my watch screen) and the audioprompt on my Shokz says 4:45/km.

- I'm following the suggested training for a half marathon. My Training status is Maintaining for over a month now, VO2max isn't improving, but the race predictor is predicting a better time every day. But according to my watch I'm not improving........???? (My body en legs tell me something else ;-D)

As far as I can tell the race prediction seems close. But the rest is way off in my opinion.

Regards,

Erik

  • A few SW versions earlier they change the way VO2Max is shown/calculated on the watch. It is more an average of a longer period, IN Runalyze you can see the little changes after each run, in GC/Watch you only see the whole, rounded numbers. So I expect you do not see VO2Max changing, while it actually is, but on the background. And thats why you see improving race prediction.

Suggested training did not do it for me either, when I let the watch automatically update the LTHR. It is better to do a LTHR test run every now and then, and put the figures in GC manually. You could try that for a while.

I thought it was always like this (for Garmin devices in general)? I've used runalyze for a few years now, and the Garmin "VO2 Max (from file)" (displayed to 2 decimals) has always varied a lot less than the Runalyze per-activity VO2 Max, which suggested to me the former was an average. Or maybe 955 was different closer to release? (I only got my 955 recently)

On the watch you can also look at Training Status glance > VO2 Max to see a line graph which shows granular changes (although none of the individual values are labelled), as opposed to the graphs on the Connect website or app which only show whole number points. e.g. If your VO2 Max is currently 52.5, then the graph on the watch will show a point halfway between 52 and 53, whereas the graphs in the Connect app/site will show a point on 53.

Never seen that before. Great tip!

  • Al true, but it's still weird that the LTH times are off, also in combination with the audio.

If you only look at the Garmin stats: A LTH 4:43/km and a VO2Max 50... A Half Marathon Raceprediction from 1:37:13. Technically not possible because it means I'm running 4:36/km. That a lot above my LTH to sustain for 21.1Km.
