Priority and supporting events

Hi,

I'm about to start training for a marathon and intend to add it as an event and follow the daily training suggestions. But also I want to do weekly 5k park runs.

I see from the calendar that I can have a priority event and additional supporting events. My intention would be to have the park runs as supporting events.

My question is whether it is possible to add recurring supporting events or do I need to add each park run individually?

Thanks

  • I'm interested in this. Following my 245 daily suggestions and I don't think my watch has full fn'ality but would still like recurring parkrun 5k in my calendar.

  • There is no option to add a recurring event, and I don't recommend you add many supporting event before your main event.

The training plan will try to created a periodization for your main event and accomodate one secondary race before that. If you add more than this, the overall approach is sub optimal for your main event.

Instead, run your weekly 5k park runs instead of that day DSW. Be careful not to run them too hard too often, otherwise the same problem will occur, this time driven by the load and recovery time coming from these races. Because the DSW are flexible, you can switch things around to preserve the mix proposed by the DSW.

For example, if you have long runs scheduled during the week-end, schedule them the day when you typically don't run a 5k. Then, you would expect that the other week end day will be a short base DSW. If you intend to run your 5k fast, you'll do the next harder DSW as a base run. Essentially you try to replace a DSW by your 5k run.

If found this approach work well also if you replace a running workout with an indoor biking workout, making it easier for recovery purposes.
