Forerunner 955 keeps trying to update

Hi all!

I’ve had my 955 for about exactly a year. A week ago it went through an update. Then another. Then another. I finally realized something wasn’t right. Now about once or twice a day it will try to update and always tries every time I take it off my wrist. I have plugged into my computer and the program says the watch is up to date. I have done a factory reset on the watch, everything I can think of. Still keeps happening. This is on software 16.17.

Any ideas?

  • Mine is just changing back and forth without any apparent pattern. The new firmware, that is 17.18, did not solve anything.

  • I agree. There is no pattern of updating Sensor Hub software after its failure (=0.01) in operation, disconnection of optics operation.
To return the Sensor Hub firmware value from 0.01 to 27.17 (beta v.17.18) you need to connect to PC, wait for the watch to connect via MTP protocol and disconnect the cable from PC. If there was a 006D856710.gcd file in the RemoteSW folder, you will be prompted to update and install the Sensor Hub firmware. If the RemoteSW folder is empty or no update is offered, then you need to connect to the PC, delete the RemoteSW folder, synchronise via Garmin Express (2-3 times to guarantee), disconnect the cable from the PC and confirm the sensor software update.
I also noticed a peculiarity, if the language of the watch is English, it lives longer. If you set the regional language of the watch interface, the "sensor death" comes much faster. Paradox.

As suggested by Garmin-Sierra, detection of Sensor Hub version = 0.01 is a reason to start the procedure of returning/exchanging the watch for a new one.

And if Garmin had made factory firmware for rollback, it would have been possible to avoid such difficulties and nerves for users of Garmin products.

  • This is happening again! So annoying. I tried the steps listed below...did not work the first time, did not work this time. Although it did stop after a while last time.....can we get a fix please?

  • This issue restarted over the weekend... Why provide a fix then an unfix? Please help by fixing this issue... again

  • What helped me was to first delete all maps (.img files) from the clock and dials, apps and CIQ fields. Then a full reset with data deletion (I did hard reset with the buttons) two times in a row.
Then I chose the simplest dial, walked around with it for three days, did some training.
Made sure that the optics worked without fail and only then installed my favourite dial and CIQ fields.
    It works.

  • Sensor Hub fails again in 0.01
The cause was connecting to a PC and synchronising with Garmin Express.
The watch has been running smoothly for about a month. What is it?

  • It's the same for me - Poland. Already replaced twice. For the first time the sensor stopped working and then the steps. Now it wants to update every now and then again. I will request an exchange again, but this time for a different model. I've had enough of this.
