Bluetooth disconnects after closing Garmin Connect app (after migration from Android to iPhone)

Hi All,

My employer swapped recently the Android smartphones for iPhone smartphones and I have installed the Garmin Connect app onto the new iPhone and connected my Forerunner 955 solar to the new iPhone. Everything works fine, except I have noticed that the Bluetooth connection stops after I have closed the Garmin Connect app. With the (visible) disconnected Bluetooth connection I am still able to receive messages and notifications, but the weather data is no longer being updated (waiting for data message). During the use of the Garmin Connect app on the Android device this was never an issue when the Garmin Connect app was closed.

I have set the location for the Garmin Connect app to "always" and the app is active in the background, but when the Garmin Connect app has been closed, the weather data is no longer available. If I keep the Garmin Connect app running, the weather app is nicely being updated according to the interval time I have set. Is this "standard behaviour" of the Garmin Connect app on iPhone devices, or did I forget to configure some parts of the Garmin Connect app?

Any hints/tips are welcome.........

Gusman

  • Odd that the Bluetooth disconnects but you're still getting messages and notifications??

Connect app needs to be open/running in background. Also, in the iPhone Connect app settings enable: Bluetooth, Location (always), Background App Refresh, and Cellular Data.

  • Dear Linbaugher,

Thank you for your reply. I have set the settings as you mentioned in the app and I understand for iPhones the app needs to be open and running in the background. This is different compared to the Android devices, where the app can be closed and runs only in the background.

    Have a nice day Thumbsup
