[16.17] Bug: Touch not working in maps if general use touch is OFF

Over and over. This bug exist from very beginning and it's still not fixed. I'm really disappointed when it come to software quality for Forerunner lineup. I've had Fenix 6 for years and software was not ideal but robust and solid. Then I bought F955. Really poor experience when it comes to software :/

So, that was reported several times for much older versions but I still see an issue that you can use touch to move between data screens, however not to scroll or zoom the map.

Is this a known issue being worked on?

Repro steps:

  • Go to settings / System / Touch
  • Set 'During Activity' to 'On for All Activities', set 'General Use' to 'Touch Off'
  • Start activity with a map and use touch to enter the map. As soon as you enter the map touch is disabled (it does work to move between data screens)
  • To me this is similar to the bug/inconsistency where touch is disabled for the Save menu but if you select Discard, the confirmation prompt responds to touch (if it's enabled for the activity.)

Garmin doesn't seem to be too worried about edge cases / non-default config.

  • I think this is kind of logical bug. We first nagged that if General Touch is On and During Activity is Off that the map should still work.
I think the Map is using just the General Use setting, when it probably should have General Use OR During Activity.

But not much we can do about it.

  • Honestly I don't see any logic behind that. For comparison I've read that Fenix 7 has "Map Only" option for the touchscreen. And that's sound logically. I'd wish I had that simply settings in F955. To turn ON touch only on map view. Everywhere else keep it turned OFF.

  • I'm not saying that it's good and it should work like that, or that how it works is logical. I'm saying the bug is logical. Stupidly fixed the original issue causing another issue.

  • Thank you for your participation in Forums. I've created a report regarding this and will update this thread when I know more.

  • Yeah and better fix would more likely be that "Map Only" -option, so it would be more inline with others, than the map screen works if general touch or during activity is set. Of course probably little bit more work for the first and less for latter and hard to say what it would mean for introducing that new option.

  • All,

SW version 17.24 is now live and this has been fixed. If you are still experiencing this on 17.24, please start a new thread.
