Open Water Swim GPS issue 955 Solar

I did an open water swim yesterday and the watch bugged out in the middle (started beeping and wouldn't stop) and ended up recording over 20,000 yards swam.  I probably swam only about 2,200 yards in under an hour so the recorded distance isn't even close.  The GPS recorded a long distance over land and not even in the water.  Anyone else having an issue like this?

  • Hi,

I'm having issue with reported distance being much longer then the actual whe OWS on FR 955. Could be related?

Can you please check that you are having the same issue? You can export OWS as GPX or Google Earth file and open it in google maps to see the distance. I'm having about 40% distance difference.

    Thank you.

  • My issue sounds different.  My difference in distance is about 1000%.  And the GPS isn't even in the correct location.  As you can see on the screen shot above, it has me going over 10 miles on land.  It doesn't make any sense.

  • I understand, but before, when you swam, did you have correct distance being reported?

  • Before this it was fairly close to the correct distance.

  • Could be one time issue? But please take a look next time you OWS. I see reports, including myself about huge distance deviations. Thank you very much.

  • I am hoping it is a one time issue.  I haven't tried another OWS since.  My previous Garmin watch (Vivoactive) was always about 30% off when I used a downloaded OWS app.  But the 955 has been better until this occurrence.  I would estimate it is within about 5% accuracy most of the time which is not too bad.
