FV 16.17 - Steps, heart rate and calories not working

Yesterday, my watch suggested to update to version 16.17 which I did. After the update I noticed that neither steps, heart rate and calories were functioning. Not in day-to-day mode but also not in the run sport mode.

I tried a reboot, soft reset and hard reset which deleted all my settings and activities. Nothing worked so far. I tried to connect my watch to my Macbook to try to go back to the previous software version but the watch won't connect.

So this leaves me with a watch that isn't really functional for now. Luckely, the external heart rate monitor works so workouts are still doable.

Anyone with an idea? Garmin?

  • Everything OK. Wait for the next update. (joke but true)

  • Ok the problem got solved automatically with the sensor update which was pushed to the watch. Pitty it took more than a day to appear, but it worked in the end.

  • Hello, same problem after update to 16.17 Disappointed The update was showed in Settings automaticaly, or how the sensors are updating? Thx

  • Perhaps it helps to go to settings en check for firmware updates? Also try to connect the phone to WiFi and then check again.

  • Got an update this morning which introduced this bug which wasn't here before. (september 14).

EDIT : since then I updated two more times and OHR and steps seem to to work, I wasn't able to have the watch recognized by the PC but it's not that important.

  • Same problem, tried everything, guess I just wait for the sensor update?

  • I've got the same problem here. In addition to the heart rate monitor or steps not working, my 955 Continuously tries to update everytime I plug it in.

  • I had the same problem and Garmin tried to help but didn't work. Then I connected my watch to my mac and found out how you can solve this:

    - Connect watch to computer
    - Launch Garmin Express
    - Click on IQ Apps
    - Remove the Heart Rate app and the Steps app by clicking on the cross next to them
    - Go back to the home screen and sync your watch
    - Remove your watch from the computer
    - Click on the bottom left button, where you can scroll through training status, training readiness, etc. Probably, your heart rate and step count were listed here before. Because you removed it from the IQ app it should not list here any more (if it does, go back to Garmin express to remove them again).
    - Scroll all the way down and press 'Edit'
    - Select Heart rate and/or Step Count and add them
    - They should now appear again on the bottom of this list.
    - You can check your Wrist Heart Rate status under System > About > 7th screen down > WHR: If it says 00.00.00 your heart rate is disabled. Hopefully after the steps above it will say: WHR: 13.00.04 or higher, indicating that it is working again. The Sensor Hub also changed from: 0.01 to 25.63 after doing the steps above.

Let me know if this works for you.

  • I tried it several times. Still has 0.00.00 for my heart rate and 0.01 for the sensor.

  • Hi! I am also facing this problem, and besides the HR and steps not working, when I try to connect to a WI-FI there is also a message that the battery is too low, although it is 100%. The software version is 17.24 and I also had multiple system update requests before the issue.
I tried the steps mentioned above, butthe App versions continue to be 0 and 01. I just completed one 1 year having the 955 :)
