16.17 955 solar weather glance waiting for data

When I click on the weather glance I get the "Waiting for data" screen with the red band and exclamation mark across the top.

If I press the back button the weather appears  be displayed and everything seems fine for a few moments and then the red band with the exclamation mark appears across the top of the weather widget screen.  If I scroll up or down the red band disappears.

All other widgets appear to working fine.

Anyone else seeing this?

  • Yup! Same issue on my non-solar 955. It’s super annoying and worked fine for me before.

  • weather data depends on phone. The phone weather need location. So turn on location and bluetooth on the phone and wait for a while before you can manually sync it via the phone or watch. To prevent this from happening, either keep your location switched on for your phone, or do the above each time.

  • Works fine on my non-solar 955. As mentioned by make sure your phone settings are correct.

  • As mentioned, it worked fine before. Location for Connect is already set to “Always”. This is a new bug.

  • Is your phone location turned on? Not location setting in connect app.

  • Same here. Since 2 weeks. Reconnected / synced everything. Android settings/permissions are correct.

  • Hi Cloonix please would you report it to Garmin product support.  Right now they think I am the only one with this issue,

    Support have told me that no changes were made to the weather widget for 16.17.

    I wonder if it was a change made to ConnectIQ or another part of the architecture related to obtaining data from the phone.

    Not sure why a message that is merely warning about slow download would need to be cancelled rather than just disappear after the data arrives.  Seems to be a mistake in the design.

  • I've solved it on my device. Can't tell you which step solved the issue. But what i did (in desperation):

    - Changed Celsius to Fahrenheit
    - Added permission for Connect app on Android to access Contacts
    - Opened the Connect IQ in the Garmin Connect App (did not install the IQ app)
    - I changed the location to "fixed location"

    Now my widget on the watch shows the weather for the fixed location.

    My guess is, that the contact permission or the fixed location setting fixed it for me. 

    EDIT: It's the phone's location permission. Always does not work, while "only while using the app" is working. The latter might break if the phone app is going to sleep. Other workaround is "fixed location". 

  • I don't have the option "only while using the app". I can only turn permission on or off.  I had already given access to contacts as this is needed for displaying who is calling.  I have all permissions granted except for the microphone.  Most of the time my weather glance gives me the waiting for data message but right now it is not doing it but I'm not sure if going in and checking these settings has helped or not given that it is intermittent.
