16.17 - Inaccurate calculation for total ascent and descent

Hello,

I have noticed that my watch has become very inaccurate in measuring elevation gain and loss after some firmware updates. It always overestimates the values by about 10 to 12 percent.

This was not the case a few months ago when my watch was fairly precise.

I tried to reset the data and settings of my watch, but it did not help. For example, in my last activity, I got 9700 meters of elevation gain instead of 8400 meters.

Is this a common problem for other users?

How can I fix this issue?

Thank you.

Johann

  • I understand the accuracy of barometric altimeter. There's no reason to assume the precision of the watch elevation to be anywhere near meter or five meters or even ten meters. But elevation profile and -gain/loss has always been fairly accurate for me. I've used 955 for a year and half and 745 before that and had no issues at all. Now elevation has been total mess for 5 months already. I'm talking about 150m elevation gain in a completely flat terrain run and 10+ floors climbed 5 minutes after waking up. All the metrics like running power, hill score, training effect, recovery time etc are strongly influenced by that.

  • Hi. I just had the same problems. I sent the watch to the service center, we will see if the problem will be solved. However, I expect that they will send me a copy of the NOH watch. Either way, I'll let you know soon if the problem persists.

  • and buy a watch from another brand

lol, I already reduce my options a lot...

For example I have solar version and i bought mine just after launch 02.06.2022. Maybe they had probems with earlier versions of the watches and they changed the hardware later on.

It could be a possibility and that is why there are so many users who say they have certain problems that others never had.

Could it be a possibility that over time the barometric sensor becomes dirty and gives erroneous readings or would something like that be impossible? (It also captures dirt, perspiration, etc. in that hole.)

  • It is sure to be a hardware problem. A friend of mine has an Enduro2 model, he runs similar routes in our city and his measurements are

    much more accura te.

  • My readings on FR955S are similar than your captures on different activities types.
Could affect this the settings of each activity about 3D altitude, etc?
Could it be possible that the first production batches had some kind of problem... I don't know.

  • this is my track workout. It is a flat as a pancake. This is at sea level so for me it’s accurate.

  • yes, maybe because you have track run set Grinning

  • It is very unpredictable and I don't know to what condition are related. Weather?

The same running route which real elevation gain close to 0m.

And results of FR955 Solar are 60m, 24m and today when is raining 3m. I don't understand.

  • Yesterday run, start/end at the same place...11m difference/my old suunto 1m/ calibrated before run...during run 20m diferences in barometric/gps height...

  • Even when total ascent and descent are "accurate", the altimeter is wrong.

This is a 15km run on a 2.2km roundtrip done 7 times. It seems that at each round my town is sinking more and more Slight smile

The altimeter is influenced too much from the wrist temperature
