Is the 955 Still the 965 - AMOLED? General Impressions?

Hi all,

I'm a runner coming from another ecosystem that I'm generally happy with on the platform side, but unhappy with on the product offerings (Polar).

I'm starting to flirt with Garmin — all the review sites suggested the 265. The price seemed a little rich for my blood given the feature set. So I started looking at the 245/255 and saw they were lacking a bit on the feature side of things. But I found that the 955 could be had refurbished/used for around the same price. Given that I don't really care about AMOLED (I like that MIPS is always on and that it doesn't slurp power).

Long story short, I've got the 955 Solar on the way and am trying to figure out if it's got all the features I want. A few reviewers mentioned that it's essentially the 265 965 without AMOLED after an update that was released shortly after the 265 was released. Is this still true today?

Thanks!

  • Hi

The 955 has plenty of features, and I'm sure more will be added. I'm guessing eventually the jet lag advisor, sleep coaching from the latest venu, but I might be wrong. But yes, I think the 965 is an AMOLED version of the 955.

  • 955 it's not "a 265 without AMOLED".

    It's a 965 without AMOLED.

I choose 955 mainly because 965 has a curved glass which makes almost impossible to place a tempered glass protector in a decent way.

955 instead has a perfectly plain glass and tempered glass on it it's super perfect and allow me to enjoy it outdoor without caring too much.

I use maps a lot on my hiking and I would have loved an higher resolution, more colored display, but I'm very happy with my 955 choice. MIPS is awesome in the sun.

  • Ah, I typo’d on that line. Thanks!
