Automatic LTHR detection does not work

Hi everybody,

     I have the following issue:

For the last three training days I have been doing intervals where I have gotten close to my max heart rate. I'm using a Polar H10 chest strap, the time spent in each heart rate zone across the spectrum up to near maximum heart rate was sufficient to determine LTHR, I think. But there was no automatic lactate threshold detection during any of the workouts. The watch just didn't offer anything.

Basically, I had no LTHR updates for a month. The last time the watch offered and Garmin Connect saved was 6/25/2023. Nothing since then!

So I ask, does the automatic LTHR detection and updates work for you now?

Thank you in advance for the answer!

  • My last run with the 955 last week gave me LTHR update. I was using HRM Pro ANT+. Software is the latest Beta 16.09.

  • My last LTHR update was in may, but i don't care anymore. Just happy it shows the time correctly. Smiley

  • Same. I’ve kind of given up on LTHR auto-detection. I’m disappointed but I’m just going to assume that it’s never coming back. Maybe one day I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Shrug

  • Well, that's very strange, because it worked for me for a while a month ago. It was already looking very promising.

I'm not happy about that at all. Not at all.

  • You are optimistic about correct time Slight smile. Two FR955 side-by-side had a time offset of a few seconds which only got corrected after forcing sync time from GPS!

  •      I tried a guided LTHR test and it works fine. Only with the exception that it forced me to run in the 205-211 range in the last 3 min. phase at my max. heart rate of 210. Funny. Fortunately, it still gave me new LTHR value.

  • Worked fine for me this morning. 5km steady/tempo effort in the middle of an 11km run.

    Firmware: 15.19

HRM: old HRM-Run from my 620. Several straps and batteries later, but still awesome!

  • How long were you in the last, fifth heart rate zone during this run please?

  • For me, LTHR started working with 15.19. I didn't change any settings or do anything special other than upgrade to 15.19.

    • May 26: 12:50 in Zone 5 HR <-- First day after upgrading to 15.19
    • June 6:  5:05 in Zone 5 HR <-- 8x45s hill sprints. 9:52 in Zone 4. Not sure what triggers LTHR detection??
    • June12: 19:31 in Zone 5 HR
    • Aug 09:  21:26 in Zone 5 HR

I wore a HRM strap only one other time since 15.19, last week or the week before, but I didn't get a LTHR update. But, I also had a glitch w/the watch or HRM that day (no Running Dynamics recorded).

  • Thank you for your reply!

I was surprised that it now worked by itself once when I spent 3min in the red heart rate zone, but the day after I ran the same route but was only in the red for two minutes, and it no longer offered the LTHR update.

I also don't know if the LTHR detection is somehow interfering with the uphill runs.
