Cannot unlock maps

I just received map update in Garmin Express. After update I got message Cannot unlock maps. I tried to delete and upload maps, but message keeps popping up. Software 16.09. Anyone experienced similar?

This has been resolved. Anyone reinstalling their map using the steps from Reinstalling TopoActive, CourseView, and Ski Maps to a Compatible Garmin Watch should no longer experience this message.

This is really annoying.

I bought the 955 for both the maps and the music. The maps are locked, and the software is stuck on on 13.23 so I cannot install music apps. I've essentially got the functionality…

Same here on 15.19. I plugged in the 955 and it asked to update maps. Then that failed and after that it says cannot unlock maps error. Restarting causing loading maps to show for a minute and then fail. I tried to remove all maps but error still shows.

I just deleted and backed up all img files and that did indeed the trick.

Actually I didn't get the error anymore but as soon as I installed courseview maps it failed again. Seems 7.20 update is broken and removing those smaller img files fixes it for me temporarily.

The issue is not specific to the 955, also 965, epix, and Fenix 7, so suggest following this thread, as it is getting updated by Garmin.

This product is a real let down. It failed with the "cannot unlock maps" before even one use. Well done Garmin.... Well done...

Deleted maps on the watch, then tried to reinstall them
