Different serial number in connect

955, non solar. Serial number looks like 7EL043NNN (N is digit)

It is shown on the box and on the watch, same number is shown in explore app and connectIQ app (both Android)

For some reason in Garmin connect (both connect web and Android app) show different serial number (3445240MMM), that has no resemblance with the one on the watch

It looks that different number is shown only in Garmin connect. I had like 7 forerunners and an edge - all had a single serial number.

What is the reason for that? Is that a refurbished or faulty device? It works okay.

  • Actually expected someone from Garmin to react.

Ps, I wish this forum was more a user community  as it used to be like 5 years ago.

  • 1. I don't think it is wise to quote serial numbers in a public forum.

    2. Call Garmin Support , thats the best way to interact with them.

    hi,

    • the number starting with 7EL is the serial number
    • the number starting with 34 is the device id
  • 1. It is not my id, of you read carefully

    2. Messaged to them, no response so far, promised time is 5 days. Chat was not available when I tried

  • Thanks! Why is second shown on connect (and other piece of software use serial). Is that normal to have id in connect instead of serial?

my wild guess Slight smile  is that all your activity data and uploaded 24/7 data is linked with the device id

    • on your watch you can find this number in the about menu, where it is called 'unit id' Rofl
      • and on your watch in the garmindevice.xml file it is just called 'id' Rofl
    • most when not all files containing data also contain the device id and not the serial number
      • see it as a unique number linked to your data
    • Garmin Connect is linked to the device id which in turn links to the device capabilities
    • you see this when adding a second Garmin device
    • all non activity administration is linked to the serial number
  • Ok I see . Must look closer next time.

  • Thanks.

Checked device id - yep, that is it. Also checked edge (old one) - device id is different from serial. But it is serial that is shown.

Regarding the fact that everything is linked to device id - is that your guess? It does make sense, but the point is that all my Garmins showed serial in connect, not device id. It is 520, 235, 920, 935 (I had four if them), 35. Not sure about vivosmart and older ones (210 and 610).

The only one different is 955

Ps. Regarding the screen you provided. I checked couple of days ago, it identifies the model from both serial and this id - both showing 955

  • Will post a reply for future questions.

Issue was resolved by removing the watch from connect (remove from app, remove Bluetooth device from phone bt menu, add watch again).

So likely it was some big during connection

And for the reference (thanks to the OnlyTwo)

    • the number with letters (starting with 7EL for me)  is the serial number
    • the number starting with numbers (34 for me) is the unit id, it can be found in watch settings menu (settings - system - about)
