Optimum Altimeter / Barometer settings?

I live near the coast so sea level is obvious and the closest map contour altitude to my house is +3m. There is an airfield 5km on the coast that publishes SL pressure every 30mins.

If I calibrate either altitude and/or pressure to these references and set the sensor mode to auto its OK initially but both measurements drift off. For example it's showing +27m now and the pressure is 1.7hPa out (OK).

If I set sensor mode to altimeter it locks altitude so on a run it doesn't track altitude. If I set sensor mode to barometer it locks pressure and doesn't track pressure changes (weather changes and warnings).

What I expected is for the watch to track altitude from a reference point (calibrated from home for a run or start of a mountain walk from the contour lines/spot altitude) and track ambient pressure (imminent weather) independantly.

Doesnt seem to work how I want?

What settings are you using to get optimal info out of the watch?

  • I live in the flat country, so I set the altitude and use the barometer.
The highest "elevations" here are about 10m and are negligible.
However, when I drive to my birthplace 25km on the highway, which is 30m above where I live, I get severe weather warnings.
Nothing is perfect, you have to be able to interpret the values.
