Ski mode - no auto pause setting

Hi,

Looks like a recent update changed the behavior of alpine ski mode: the watch auto-pauses when on the lift. I have a few questions/ notes:

1) I cannot find a setting to *disable* this functionality - Activity& Apps > Ski does not have a choice for auto pause. Shouldn't this option be there?

2) Data sync with strava is now messed up - strava seems to be confused by the elevation teleportation (since I am jumping from bottom of lift to top). Elevation numbers are entirely incorrect for descent. Can you guys check on how the data is being ported to strava?

3) The watch does not capture ascent by boot packing (i.e. when I move uphill in my own power, not using a ski lift). I would guess this is because ski mode discards all uphill movement. Maybe this is the trade off if you want ski lift time to be discarded. But just wanted to point out that sometimes one *is* going uphill without a lift while on skis

Thanks,
Josh

  • Actually,

  • I am observing that with auto-pause off, elevation data synced to strava is very wrong.Total descent is off by almost a factor of 2 sometimes (2x what it should be)

  • Same here, but I found out how to keep "when stopped".

    1. Select a new ski activity on your watch
    2. Go to skiing activity settings
    3. Auto Pause and select "when stopped"
    4. Start the new skiing activity
    5. You can stop the activity after a few seconds, either save it or discard it

    It should be permanent now.

    Cheers

  • do you still have this issue? I have it for a few weeks.

  • Hmm, I've tried this several times now, along with setting a specific speed (3.0, 3.05), and I can't get it to "stick".

I raised this with Garmin Support some time ago now and they were able to easily repro while I was chatting w/them and said they were filing a bug/issue.

In the interim though I'm trying to use this workaround, since I don't always remember to go into settings when starting a Ski Activity (because for years on other watches Auto Pause would "stick" as expected), I wonder what the heck I'm missing here?  I've tried starting a few Ski activities, setting Auto Pause to the above, stopping and discarding, to no avail.

Maybe there's another step in here, I'm hoping?  Thanks for any feedback here!
