Still the same bugs (Bluetooth, Flight mode) in version 15.19

The watch will still switch itself out of flight mode once an activity has been selected but not yet started.
When leaving the activity that has not yet started, flight mode is still optically switched on, but internally the watch is completely in transmission mode. Bluetooth on.
I've been waiting for a solution for half a year, support knows about it, but they don't care about it!
What's that @Garmin?

Steven

  • Why do you insist this is a feature when it is clearly a bug? Why do you insist that Garmin's airplane mode is Wifi only when the watch itself states otherwise? The watch UI is clearly in an inconsistent state when the bug occurs.

Even though the phone is connected, on Garmin's built-in watch faces, the airplane icon is shown instead of the phone icon. On the Controls dial, you can't do a sync, and the phone icon is also shown as cancelled.

The 745 does not have this bug and behaves the way it should.

  • Yes, I can't speak for everyone, true. Sorry.

    1) 0,5 W => 0,5 W / 5V = 100 mA => 345 mAh / 100mA = 3,45 hours !!! :-) (joke, the same as yours)

    2) "take off the watch" - but I want the watch on to measure all the statistics, just don't need the bluetooth on "all the time".
I am not afraid of signals (I sleep next to my wifi router :-)) but I see no reason why I can't turn off the wireless source on my wrist when I'm asleep and it's on unnecessarily, nor do I need to announce to the neighbors that I have Garmin watch.

    3) ok, it's a bit sad, I would have expected Bluetooth in a high-end Garmin watch to be at least comparable to Bluetooth on a regular 3x cheaper phone.

Bluetooth can be enabled/disabled: Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO
Bluetooth discoverability can be enabled/disabled: Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO
Bluetooth discoverability is automatically disabled after some time: Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO
Bluetooth endpoint name can be changed: Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO
Bluetooth connection issues? Reset bluetooth, turn off/on the module: Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO, turn off the whole watch, lose measurement while it's off.
Bluetooth supports speaker profiles (can connect to a bluetooth speaker): Phone: YES, Garmin watch: NO

    >Honestly just Power off the device
I have a watch so I can look at the time, date (it's a watch after all), stress, heart rate, body battery, steps, recovery status, training, can measure my activities, look at statistics etc. It's not only about smartwatch mode where the bluetooth is required. 955 is a watch for sports (especially running). I can also enable the bluetooth (now by tapping the airplane icon) and can have it on all day - if I want.
So I don't understand why you suggest turning off the device or not having the option to turn off bluetooth when it doesn't concern you at all.

  • Honestly just Power off the device... Is a really stupid statement! What's that?

Even a 100 euro cell phone has better wireless management than this expensive watch! The developers of the garmin 945 software got it right there. But that was also another quality.

  • You are missing my point. I stated that if he/she is afraid of wireless communication then the only solution is to power off the watch.

  • The math is wrong. One of the variable are not correct. You knew that before you wrote ;-) Adding a BT device to your watch does not give a total of 3,5 hours of battery.

    The garmin manuel says:

Activity mode with All + Multi-Band mode, wrist-based heart rate, and music playback

    Up to 8.5 hr.

Notice that if you are just using your 955 as a watch with BT turned on - it does not drain to zero in 3,5 hours or even in 8,5 hours ;-) the bluetooth on garmin devices is Bluetooth Low Energy = BLE meaning almost no battery is used when not doing anything.

  • I have now received an answer from support and it has been confirmed by the developer that this is a bug and that the Bluetooth mode is implemented incorrectly.
This should be fixed in one of the next updates. :)

    Steven

  • The Airplaine bug has finally been fixed in version 16.17. :)

  • Thanks for the confirmation! I have been waiting for this one to be fixed. You didn't even have to start an activity, it was just going into the activities screen which triggered Bluetooth to be activated.
