Altimeter inaccuracy

Hi,

I have software version 15.19.

Lately i've noticed problems with altimeter/elevation. It gives too much elevation gain/loss during activity and in meantime too. Most of the days watch tells me before lunch that ive climbed 10 floors already. I've tried to calibrate the sensor and clean the watch with no results.

SETTINGS: Sensor mode - AUTO, auto cal. - ON.

Does anyone else noticed similar issues?

  • There are no any changes in 16.16 beta yet.

  • Software 16.17 has the same problem.

Start and finish are in the same point. Jogging along flat embankment without any descent.Flushed

  • Strange. Hardware Defect?

Here my yesterdays run, along a hilly road and back the same way. Quite good.

  • No, i think software bug.

In other activities i have more credible data.

I had had accurate data on previous software.

  • Same path, same firmware.Incorrect at the top, while at the bottom the other watch detected the altitude correctly. Both watches are clean and have an unobstructed altimeter hole

  • I tried to change Sensor Mode from AUTO to Altimeter Only. Its not ideal but it seems to give more accurate elevation data atm. Elevation doesn't jump around that much anymore.

AUTO option doesnt seem to work properly atm. Watch doesn't simply understand when the pressure changes because of the weather and when it happens because of the elevation change.

  • This watch is really just a piece of junk. Clearly there are big problems with the altimeter, but no acknowledgements or fixes. Definitely this was the last time I bought any kind of garmin product.

  • Another great example from today's run. I ran my usual route near home. Correct elevation should be between 30 to 55 meters, with total elevation gain around 30 meters. Elevation data from FR955 havent been correct for months now but today it wasnt like a bit off or sth. It was like 4 times higher (elevation gain 120m vs 30m)!! To the point when elevation data is totally unusable. Then GAP data screen and Hill Score feature is unusable too and so on.

    TODAY'S GRAPH:

    CORRECT GRAPH (MARCH 2023):

  • Adding my voice here. I have owned my 955 since July 2022, without any altimeter issues until August 2023 (although I cannot link the initiation of the issue with the introduction of any 16.XX firmware version but definitely worked perfectly with 15.XX). Since then, at the beginning of each and every run my watch records a sudden ramp increase of altitude for the first 5-20 minutes from the correct 0-5m value to arbitrary 100-200m and a sudden ramp decrease after that to the correct values. The start of all my runs is along the same route and I know the correct elevation of the area (not more than 20m, as I live in a vey flat area at sea level). I have tried to calibrate the altimeter just before the run, which identifies the correct value immediately, until the start of my run. Soft reset and warm water cleaning of the altimeter hole has not helped either. The start of the problem has coincided with colder temperatures in my location (I run every day at 5am, so the watch is exposed from room temperature to colder ones at the beginning of the run), although no idea whether this is connected to the issue. I would tend to ignore that, but wrong altitude leads to wrong power, wrong training load, recovery and performance metrics. So practically all advanced features of the watch become useless.

  • I just asked for an option to turn off the altimeter in the setting. If its not going to get fixed, let us be able to turn off the altimeter so it doesn't ruin all the other measurements and scores. Please Like and upvote here: Please create an altimeter off button

Altimeter is so broken, please make an option within the watch to turn it off.

It now uses the data in all kind off measurements and scores but those are all useless because the altimeter measurements are totally off.

My watch tells me in the morning I already climbed 40 floors. During a run it measures allot of climbing while on a flat road. The watch and all its measurements are useless with the wrong altimeter measurements mixed in.

If you can't fix the sensor, please at least give us the option to not use it.
