Forerunner 955 v.15.19 causing increased battery drain

Installed the update to 15.19, and my battrey has drained from 23% to 15% within an hour. No activities running.

EDIT

I charged it up to about 95%. Did a hard restart and it’s held since then

  • Just wanted to mention that battery drain in my opinion is NEVER triggered by a certain firmware version, but maybe by the process of (not 100% successfully) installation.

Why do I write that? Because after every single firmware update there are complaints here in the forums and also for every watch. I owned the FR 245, then FR 255 now FR 955 and had several updates, but just once experienced a battery drain.

The soft reset (15 sec light button) fixed it for me.

  • My battery is draining super fast.  Will go from 100 to zero in the space of 3 days (about 3-4 hrs). The 955 normally lasts 6-7 days.

  • hello one night. -20% ..  or more .. turn off during

  • The solution is to power off the device for approx. 1 minute.

  • Worked for me - my new FR955 (8 months old) suddenly died at 4am this morning (based on HR data). It was 60% when I went to bed at 11pm. Never had that happen to me before in all my years using Garmin. Found this thread, and after it was fully recharged I powered off by holding in the "light/power" button until it turned off (said 'release to send assistance request' but I kept holding till it turned off). Waited a minute to see if it would reboot or if it was off-off, then held in the power/light button till I saw the little triangle logo.

8 hours later and I'm still on 99% (I had noticed it dropped quicker than usual the last few weeks just with daily use, and I wear this 24/7 so it never gets rebooted usually). Sometimes 10% a day just wearing it, quicker when I run (though marathon yesterday only chewed 34% which is pretty normal), so hopefully that did the trick. I usually get a good 2 weeks out of a charge, and that's including daily wear, 50-80km per week of running (so GPS), few hours in the gym each week (mostly use my older 935 watch for gym but some of the 'gentler' sessions I'll use my 955)

    Wow!!
How could you get 2 weeks usage for daily wear including 50-80km/week running and gym hours?
I need to charge every 8 days for daily 1 hour running and 1 hour swimming.

  • i think angelakru's numbers are doable if you factor in their use of their old 935 for gym stuff.  for my recent usage on vacation where i was running and hiking and seeing a lot of sun for my 955 solar, i was projecting 16 days of use when i recharged after 13 days. smart watch use was in the 4-5% range and included over 9 hours of All Satellites GPS activities in that time span (running and hiking). being in the sun isn't my usual routine, but the Solar certainly has shown it's benefits during the past couple of weeks.

  • I use my old FR 935 for most gym work, so my 955 is day to day and running. I've disabled sleep pulse ox. Use smart tracking for running. Disabled most notifications (because they're just annoying), and have a very short timeout on my backlight. Also the watch is only a few months old.

I'm pretty happy post restart: after fully charging yesterday before lunchtime, and wearing it ever since (except for 2 hours in gym last night: 935 then), I'm now on 94%. Rest day for running.

  • Two days ago, I got forerunner 955 solar, battery is terrible, 100% goes for one day... I tried everything: full reset, stock watch face, disconnect from phone... Still battery drain... Firmware is 15.19.

Now watch is on my desk, I'm not wearing it, it not connect to phone and I factory reset... Still battery is drain the same way.

Do you have any idea how to solve the problem?

The watch is new and it's a gift, but I don't have any warranty sadly

    Thank you

  • for me after update and restart it s ok
