Pace based trainings: bad accuracy

I'm doing the 10k program by coach greg on my fr 955. I'm starting with fast runs in the target pace. There are several 1 minute intervals in or above the target pace.  It's really hard to hit the pace as the current pace measurement seems broken. The gauge during the intervals is jumping from one extreme to the other, although I'm not changing pace. I got a 33% for the training and this is frustrating.  My GPS is on highest accuracy and 1s refresh rate.  Sunny sky, no clouds, buildings or trees. Is this how it's supposed to be or does my watch has issues with GPS?   (Fw 15.12 / GPS 2.47)  Thank you!

  • Garmin has changed the workout pace to "current" pace instead of average pace which they used for previous watches.  Hence it jumps all over the place depending on small GPS inaccuracies.   They have stated that they do this so that we don't look at the watch every second. ?!

I don't look at the workout pace now, in fact I don't even bother setting a target pace at all and instead use my own display showing average pace, remembering what my target is.  You certainly can't do repeats/intervals correctly using this displayed workout pace.

  • When I go from Recovery into a speedy interval it takes a few seconds for the pace gauge to catch up so I have to estimate the pace based on feel to start the interval. If I gauge it incorrectly and go out too fast then it will quickly switch from Too Slow to Too Fast once the watch catches up.

I find it’s good practice to help develop a sense of pacing based on feel. Furthermore, I generally only use pace bands for longer intervals (800m+). For shorter intervals I try to focus more on RPE.

  • I am experiencing issues with this as well, and it's also affecting power. It will take nearly 30 seconds for the power reading to catch up to the slower pace I am running when performing the recovery portion of the interval. It makes it a nightmare to do short interval workouts. I also use the best GPS settings and set it to 1s recording. Whatever change they implemented is not progress.

  • I'm on 14.20 and I created an HR target training plan where I switch from Z4 1000m then Z3 200m resting.

The result is totally messed up and it's impossible to understand the pace and HR while training because you get incosistent readings.
I don't know how a device which should be totally reliable about GPS and HR could be totally messed up like this.

How can you write wrong software about this? I mean it's not rocket science, how could you?

You're reading an HR sensor and a GPS sensor, what did you put in the software code?

rewrite it from scratch, do something, what's difficult Garmin? please, come on
